Counterfeit Official Checks: Counterfeit Official Checks of Chevron Credit Bank, N.A., Murray, Utah

Chief Executive Officers of All National Banks; All State Banking Authorities; Chairman, Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System; Chairman, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation; Director, Office of Thrift Supervision; Conference of State Bank Supervisors; Deputy Comptrollers (districts); Assistant Deputy Comptrollers; District Counsel; and All Examining Personnel

The above-named bank has reported that counterfeit official checks, issued in the bank’s name and using a correct routing number of 031100209, are being presented for payment. The counterfeit checks differ significantly from the authentic checks.

The counterfeit checks may be identified by the following: a standard check stock of unknown color with a dark border across the top of the instrument containing the statement, “THIS DOCUMENT HAS A COLORED BACKGROUND AND MICROPRINTING. THE REVERSE SIDE INCLUDES AN ARTIFICIAL WATERMARK.” The word, “CHEVRONTEXACO,” appears in all capital letters in the top-right portion of the check, followed by the bank’s correct P.O. Box address; the bank name of “Citibank Delaware” appears in the top-center portion of the check, followed by an address of “One Penne Way, New Castle, DE 19720-2408”; and a table is located in the right-center of the check, which includes cells for “Reference,” “Date,” “Check No.,” and “Amount.” The majority of checks presented for payment has been in the amounts of either $2,800.00 or $2,400.00, and has included an unknown signature of “Adam Geoshoper.”

Authentic official checks issued by the bank are pale turquoise-blue in color with a white border at the bottom. The word, “ChevronTexaco,” is printed in the top-left portion of the check, and the bank’s name, “CHEVRON CREDIT BANK, N.A.,” is printed in all capital letters in the top-center portion of the check, followed by the bank’s address of “P.O. Box 5010, Concord, CA 94524.” The words, “CITIBANK DELAWARE, A SUBSIDIARY OF CITICORP, ONE PENN’S WAY, NEW CASTLE, DE 19720,” are printed at the bottom-left portion of the check, and the checks are signed “ChevronTexaco,” not by an individual person.

The back of an authentic check has an endorsement box and lists security features: chainlink, watermarking, microprinting, and visible fibers.
