Comptroller Issues Statement Regarding Senator Tim Johnson

WASHINGTON — Comptroller of the Currency Thomas J. Curry issued the following statement regarding Senator Tim Johnson’s decision not to seek reelection.

For more than 35 years, Tim Johnson has represented the people of South Dakota, first in the state legislature, then in the U.S. House of Representatives, and finally in the U.S. Senate.  Throughout his career, he provided leadership on legislative issues that improved the lives, not only of South Dakotans, but of all Americans.

In the aftermath of the recent financial crisis, most recently as the Chairman of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, Tim worked to ensure that a strong regulatory and capital infrastructure was in place so that banks will be better able to withstand any future crisis.  He also has supported small banks in their efforts to serve communities across America, and he has advocated on behalf of consumers to ensure that they are treated fairly by financial institutions.  We will all miss Tim’s calm and steady leadership in the Senate, and I want to personally thank him for his service and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
