Tom Tofte Named Senior National Bank Examiner

WASHINGTON - The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency today announced that it had designated Tom Tofte a Senior National Bank Examiner.

The Senior National Bank Examiner designation recognizes examiners who have distinguished themselves through high-quality performance and service as field examiners, subject matter experts, and advisers on highly complex and technical bank supervision issues. Being designated a Senior National Bank Examiner is the highest honor for national bank examiners.

“Tom joins a very select group of examiners who over the past 150 years have earned the title of Senior National Bank Examiner,” said Comptroller of the Currency Thomas J. Curry. “Like those before him, Tom has made a lasting impact on the supervision of national banks and federal savings associations as a leading expert in retail credit, enterprise risk management, operational risk, and payment systems risk, and more importantly, as leader, resource, and mentor to those around him.”

Among his many responsibilities during his 28 years in bank regulation, Mr. Tofte has served as Examiner-in-Charge of MetaBank - a $1.7 billion complex, mono-line prepaid card thrift - and as the subject matter expert for credit cards and prepaid cards while a member of the OCC's Sioux Falls Field Office. In Large Bank Supervision, he supervised the $25 billion student loan portfolio at Wells Fargo, and led or assisted on credit card and merchant processing examinations at Capital One and Bank of America. Mr. Tofte is currently the EIC of TCF National Bank.
